i cannot begin to tell you how much i am in total bliss to have both guys i love (though in very different ways) in the same place, at the same time.
'twas a good call to hold out watching the daniel radcliffe version, and be rewarded with darren criss playing pierrepont! i thought he was a better fit for the role, but his voice is still a looong way from being a big broadway star. not that it isn't good, just needs improvement. at some parts where chorus singers come in, it was pretty obvious that criss' voice sounded thin and just unable to sustain their strength. having said that, i give him all due credit for the duets and trios cos very good harmony was achieved. i do think he lucked out that the range of these musical pieces weren't wide, so there really isn't room for being off-tuned.
lastly, i must commend him on his form. really very fit for someone who only had two weeks to rehearse! there were a couple of songs in the show that were a real test of strength - he had to dance and hop around whilst singing and maintaining coherence/enunciation, which he did, so kudos on that one. very awesome.
all in all, a very fun musical which both kenneth and i enjoyed. it totally surpassed our expectations, and we were glad to be in new york at the right time.
really looking forward to seeing darren improve, and may this musical pave the way for him to have many more musicals!
